Betty & Spencer’s Story
“Spencer and I met in March of 2015. I was Miss Warner Robins at the time, preparing for the Miss GA pageant in June, he was a cop with Monroe County Sheriffs Department and the Point Man on the SWAT Team. Spencer and I were both extremely busy in our lives at the time and didn't have time to go out and meet people, so we found each other through Tinder...haha. We spoke on the phone for 3 hours and just instantly connected. We met the next day for our first date where he actually kissed me within the first five minutes. by the end of the night he asked me to be his girlfriend and I immediately said yes. on our second date he told me he was in love with me, to which I replied that I was definitely in love with him too. From that moment on we were inseparable. Between work and pageant prep, we spent every moment we could, together. Spencer came to support me at Miss Georgia and watched me win, and then three months later he came to Atlantic City and watched me win Miss America.
While I was Miss America we only saw each other a handful of times. It was definitely difficult, but we had such a strong relationship with such loyalty and trust, that we made it work. In August, the month before my year as Miss America would come to a close, I got three days to spend with his family on vacation at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, FL. The moment I arrived, Spencer got me out of the car, walked me over to this beautiful area with palm trees and a view of the beach told me how much he loved me, got down on one knee, and proposed to me. It was such a huge surprise since I was technically not allowed to get engaged while I was still Miss America. It was the hardest secret I've ever had to keep. I would wear my ring in the privacy of whatever hotel I was in at the time, during the rest of my travels. after I gave up the title of Miss America, I could finally announce that I was engaged to my best friend in the entire world.
After my year ended as Miss America, Spencer quit his job and moved with me to Nashville. He took on my dream as his own. During my year as Miss America, Spencer would always say to me "Your dreams are my dreams". He truly meant that. He books all of my appearances, organizes my concerts, deals with clients, started our business, Maxwell Team Productions and completely supports me, 100%. I'm the luckiest girl in the world. He gave up his job and risked everything to help me follow my dream of becoming a singer.
